FAIR is Unfair
Whereas we agree with the basic principals, arguments and end result that FAIR (Federation of American Immigration Reform) wants to achieve, FAIR has gone too far in its demands upon the American populous at large.
FAIR blindly requires Americans to submit a Social Security Number for licensing when it has no inherent identifying attributes as to origin of birth. Enumeration of the populace for the intent to monitor income and dispense benefits has no relevance to national security. Thus this is a red herring mandated by sheer ignorance. It should be brought to the attention of FAIR, so they will stop promoting this avenue as a solution.
Verification of Social Security Number—Absent federal action to regulate driver’s license issuance to nonimmigrants, no license shall be issued to a citizen or legal permanent resident unless the DLIA first verifies the validity of the Social Security Number presented by the applicant with the Social Security Administration. No license shall be issued to a legal permanent resident unless the DLIA first verifies the alien’s legal immigrant status with the appropriate federal immigration authorities.
What does the SSA have to do with federal immigration authorities? This administration was instituted for the purpose of retirement and specifically told it's applicants in past years that the SSAN card was not to be used for identification.
First of all, the card holder cannot be identified by any attribute listed on that card or by revealing that number. And why should an American citizen be denied access to the right or privilege to drive because he does not have a SSA account? This cross-bracing of licensing and benefits only causes new sanctions for real citizens, and introduces unnecessary requirements and encumbrances. Let extraneous requirements and encumbrances focus upon the non-American and find a method to assure the American is not tread upon by his own government.
The SSA creates accounts based on an authentic birth certificate, so the birth certificate should be sufficient for licensing. The SSAN card is therefore redundant. Having the SSA as middle-man and a requirement for licensing is contrary to the basic principals of freedom that groups such as the Tea Party are trying to bolster.
FAIR should recheck and rethink this demand. It is causing hardships for those Americans that do not subscribe to the Social Security system. They have that right to association and cannot be forced to contract for government subsidies because FAIR promotes it.
If immigration is FAIR's concern, then let FAIR consider the total effect of its list of demands before belligerently foisting it on all Americans. Let licensing be the concern of the individual States where it belongs and keep the people free from questionable methods that deter freedom and rights in order to promote security.
